[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] In the early voting for the Seoul mayoral by-election held on the 2nd and 3rd, Jongno-gu and Geumcheon-gu recorded the highest and lowest voter turnout rates, respectively.
According to the Central Election Commission's election statistics system on the 4th, among the 25 autonomous districts (gu) in Seoul, Jongno-gu had the highest voter turnout rate at 24.44%. This is 2.49 percentage points higher than the overall early voting turnout rate in Seoul (21.95%).
Following Jongno-gu, the districts with voter turnout rates above the average were Dongjak-gu (23.62%), Songpa-gu (23.37%), Seodaemun-gu (23.02%), Seongbuk-gu (22.97%), Yangcheon-gu (22.92%), Seocho-gu (22.56%), Mapo-gu (22.54%), Gangdong-gu (22.50%), Eunpyeong-gu (22.49%), Yeongdeungpo-gu (22.08%), and Nowon-gu (21.97%).
On the other hand, the district with the lowest voter turnout was Geumcheon-gu at 18.89%. This is 3.06 percentage points lower than the overall turnout rate in Seoul, and Geumcheon-gu was the only district among the 25 in the city where the early voting turnout rate fell below 20%.
The districts with voter turnout rates below the Seoul average were Jungnang-gu (20.26%), Dongdaemun-gu (20.46%), Gangbuk-gu (20.80%), Gangnam-gu (20.83%), Gwanak-gu (21.10%), Gangseo-gu (21.45%), Guro-gu (21.47%), Gwangjin-gu (21.63%), Dobong-gu (21.64%), Yongsan-gu (21.68%), Seongdong-gu (21.68%), and Jung-gu (21.82%).
