Supply of Public Rental Housing in Rural Agricultural and Fishing Villages... Provision of Living SOC and Jobs

Supply of Public Rental Housing in Rural Agricultural and Fishing Villages... Provision of Living SOC and Jobs

[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 4th that it will officially launch and expand the Rural Residential Platform project to promote balanced national development by initiating the '2021 Regional Development Project (Investment Leading District and Regional Demand Customized Support) Contest.'

The 'Rural Residential Platform' is a project that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is focusing on this year to enhance regional vitality by attracting new populations through the supply of public rental housing, expansion of living SOC, and provision of jobs in local rural agricultural and fishing villages.

This project expands the supply of government-supported public rental housing to rural agricultural and fishing areas that have been neglected until now.

A representative success case is the Hamyang Seohacho Elementary School Aitopia project. This project provided public rental housing to families of all students at Seohacho Elementary School through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and LH, creating stable residential conditions with affordable rent, and in addition, local governments offered various job placements to residents.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to discover and support excellent projects through contests for regional development projects and urban regeneration projects this year to create a leading model for the Rural Residential Platform.

Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the ministry will discover and support Rural Residential Platform projects through rural agreements and fishing village renewal projects, and establish a cross-ministerial cooperation system centered on the Balanced Development Committee to create a foundation for the expansion of the Rural Residential Platform.

Through this year's contest, the Ministry plans to select about 8 to 11 projects among the Rural Residential Platform construction projects in growth promotion areas (70 cities and counties), and support them by dividing the total project cost of approximately 45 billion KRW into two types: Investment Leading District and Regional Demand Customized Support.

Applications for the contest can be submitted through the Regional Development Integrated Monitoring System for 40 days from May 17 to June 25, and pre-consulting will support local governments in establishing residential platform plans.

Park Heemin, Director of the Regional Policy Division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The Rural Residential Platform construction project can greatly contribute to promoting population inflow into eup and myeon areas and driving balanced regional development," adding, "We expect active participation from local governments and the discovery of excellent projects with significant ripple effects through this regional development project contest to create various successful cases of the Rural Residential Platform."
