Lee Jae-myung's Disaster Basic Income Attracts Foreigners... 6.7% Applied on First Day


[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province began accepting applications for the '2nd Disaster Basic Income' for foreign residents in the province through online and offline channels starting from the 1st, and it was reported that about 38,000 people applied in just one day.


On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province announced that a total of 38,018 people applied for the 2nd Disaster Basic Income through online and offline methods on the 1st. This accounts for 6.7% of the total eligible foreign applicants in the province, which is 570,681 people. The application types were 10,757 (28.3%) online and 27,261 (71.7%) offline, with about twice as many applying in person.


By recipient category, 16,401 were registered foreigners, and 21,577 were domestic residence reporters.


By visa status, the breakdown is as follows: ▲Non-professional employment (E-9) 2,294 ▲Visiting employment (H-2) 3,968 ▲Permanent residents 6,544 ▲Marriage immigrants (F-6) 3,271 ▲International students (D-2) 706 ▲Overseas Koreans (F-4) 16,441 ▲Others 4,794.


Before distributing the disaster basic income to foreigners, the province produced and distributed an additional guidance video via YouTube on the 31st of last month to increase online application rates. The province plans to re-announce the overview of disaster basic income payments to foreigners and the background of the target expansion through the media on the 5th.


Earlier, Governor Lee Jae-myung of Gyeonggi Province decided to provide 100,000 won per resident as the 2nd Disaster Basic Income to revitalize the local economy affected by COVID-19, and has been accepting applications online and offline since February. The province secured a total budget of 1.4237 trillion won for this purpose.
