[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae addressed the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) scandal on the 31st, stating, "The anger caused by the LH scandal is justified. Above all, I feel a heavy responsibility and am deeply sorry," while strongly criticizing People Power Party candidates Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon as the '1% privileged class.'

In a post on her Facebook that day, former Minister Choo wrote, "If those who became the 1% privileged class through unfair means become mayors, can they truly serve solely as public servants for the citizens?" She criticized, "They will try to turn back the wheels of history."

She pointed out, "We must not be swayed by their lies, who, riding on the public's anger, are recklessly making development pledges as if real estate development is their main business. Candidate Oh Se-hoon is hurriedly defending himself with a dishonest attitude, claiming he neither knows the land nor has visited the site, while candidate Park Hyung-joon is continuously embroiled in a series of real estate speculation allegations involving his family, including the LCT preferential treatment suspicion."

Former Minister Choo questioned, "Do they truly possess the philosophy or mindset to dedicate themselves to public office for the public, moral values of fairness and justice?" She then appealed for support for the Democratic Party candidates, saying, "(If they are elected) they will mock the candlelight protests demanding fairness and justice."

If those who became the 1% privileged class through unfair means become mayors, can they truly serve solely as public servants for the citizens?

The suspicion of self-compensation for land in Naegok-dong by Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon is becoming more serious. Despite concrete testimony from a local tenant who helped with the surveying and met candidate Oh Se-hoon, he is hurriedly defending himself with a dishonest attitude, claiming he neither knows the land nor has visited the site.

Also, Busan mayoral candidate Park Hyung-joon is continuously hit by a series of real estate speculation allegations involving his family, including the LCT preferential treatment suspicion.

At this critical time when resolving inequality and polarization is an urgent national task, do they truly possess the philosophy or mindset to dedicate themselves to public office for the public, moral values of fairness and justice?

The anger caused by the LH scandal is justified. Above all, I feel a heavy responsibility and am deeply sorry.

However, riding on the public’s anger, they are recklessly making development pledges as if being a mayor is their main business as real estate developers.

We must not be swayed by their lies, who became the 1% privileged class through unfair, unjust violations and loopholes far from fairness and justice.

They will mock the candlelight protests demanding fairness and justice and try to turn back the wheels of history.
