This year's Culture Day 'Cheongchun Mike' is a project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and jointly organized by the Regional Culture Promotion Agency Foundation and the Suncheon Cultural Foundation. It provides young artists with opportunities to perform and financial support to help them grow, and offers residents of Gwangju and Jeonnam the chance to enjoy culture and arts in their daily lives through small-scale street performances.
The eligibility for applying as a performance team is young cultural artists nationwide with talent and passion who can be active in Gwangju and Jeonnam (aged 19 to 34). Small busking performance teams consisting of 1 to 5 members can all apply.
After the first document and video screening on the 1st of next month and the second audition screening in May, a total of 38 teams from Gwangju and Jeonnam will be selected and provided with performance fees for up to 5 performances per team annually on Culture Day.
The final selected performance teams will hold a young artists' launch ceremony and workshop in early May, and from May to November, they will present various genres of performances to the general public on Culture Day (the last Wednesday and week of each month) at indoor and outdoor spaces available for cultural and artistic performances within the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.
Youth artists wishing to participate in this recruitment can download the application form from the Suncheon Cultural Foundation website or blog, or the Suncheon City Hall website, fill it out, and submit it via email to the Suncheon Cultural Foundation by the 16th of next month.
A representative of the Suncheon Cultural Foundation stated, "Through the Cheongchun Mike project, we expect to revitalize urban cultural spaces and promote the recovery of daily life centered around spaces that have lost their everyday vitality," adding, "We will do our best to ensure safe and successful performances through flexible scheduling and adjustments considering the COVID-19 situation in Gwangju and Jeonnam."
