Ministry of Government Legislation Finalizes '1st Basic Plan for Collection, Management, and Provision of Legal Information'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] From now on, public institution regulations such as electricity bills and gas bills can be checked directly on the National Law Information Center website.
On the 31st, the Ministry of Government Legislation announced that it had finalized the basic plan for the collection, management, and provision policy of legal information. The plan was created after gathering opinions from over 430 institutions, including central administrative agencies that create legal information, local governments, public enterprises and quasi-governmental agencies, and the Korea Legislation Research Institute. The plan was based on the "Act on the Management and Provision of Legal Information," which was enacted in December last year. According to this law, the Ministry of Government Legislation plans to systematize the collection and provision of legal information created by public institutions and expand public access.

In addition to disclosing legal information that had not been previously made public through the center, the plan includes subdividing legal information, incorporating intelligent information technology, and expanding private sector data openness. In particular, a search system will be introduced that allows users to search legal information using everyday language, not just precise legal terms, such as "villa purchase" and "part-time job."
Lee Kangseop, head of the Ministry of Government Legislation, said, "Legal information, an intangible asset of the nation, must be systematically managed reflecting the demands of citizens and businesses." He added, "The Ministry of Government Legislation will faithfully implement the basic plan and provide various legal information scattered across institutions all at once through the center to enhance public convenience and contribute to the protection of rights and interests."
