Bukchon Cultural Center to Host Saturday Cultural Events in April... Theme: 'Yangchun Hagi'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Bukchon Cultural Center in Seoul announced on the 30th that it will operate the April Saturday cultural event "Bukchon Culture Day" under the theme "Yangchunhwagi (陽春和氣) - Warm and Bright Energy of Spring."

The April "Bukchon Culture Day" will convey the warm spring energy of Bukchon to citizens through various craft and cultural experiences, traditional games, village tours, and interpretation programs centered on the traditional holiday "Hansik (寒食)," spring, and Bukchon.

On the 3rd, to celebrate the traditional holiday Hansik (寒食), there will be a seasonal event called "Gye-dong Madam's Hansik Celebration," where participants can experience various games and customs practiced during Hansik, such as making jegi (shuttlecock) and drawing pictures on eggs.

Starting from the 10th, two experience programs will be held weekly with themes of "spring" and "Bukchon," including "making flower-embedded lamps" and "creating calligraphy (myeotgeulssi) frames."

From the 17th, the village tour program, which has been loved for the past four years, will resume after a break due to COVID-19 and the winter rest period. Along with regular guided tours such as "Finding Gye-dong Madam and Treasure Hunting," visitors can enjoy the unique storytelling of Bukchon told by village guides and experience the charming Bukchon.

Additionally, traditional folk games such as seesaw (neolttwigi) and tuho throwing can be experienced anytime in the yard of the Bukchon Cultural Center. All programs recruit participants through both "advance reservations" and "on-site registration." Reservations can be checked on the Seoul Hanok Portal website's notice board or by contacting the Bukchon Cultural Center.

Ryu Hoon, Director of Urban Regeneration, said, "I hope this time will fill our difficult daily lives due to COVID-19 with a little warmth and hope by embracing the spring energy that dwells in Bukchon."
