Seoul NPO Support Center Opens 'Power of Activity, Pan' for Citizens Dreaming of Public Interest Activism

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will open the learning platform “Power of Activity, Pan” (npo-pan.kr) on the 31st, which supports the growth of current public interest activists as well as citizens aspiring to engage in public interest activities.

“Power of Activity, Pan” is the first learning platform that archives and curates all educational information related to public interest activities, covering fields of activity, job roles, and career backgrounds. Any citizen can take the educational programs they want at any time and manage their own learning history.

The Seoul NPO Support Center completed the construction of “Power of Activity, Pan” in the second half of last year and, after a testing period, is now officially launching it. The NPO Support Center is an intermediary support organization created under the “Ordinance on the Activation of Civil Society and Promotion of Public Interest Activities in Seoul” to support civil society. Since 2013, it has been operated in cooperation between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Corporation of Citizens. Through projects such as organizational capacity building, activist capacity building, support for nonprofit startups, NPO counseling centers, and NPO partner fairs, it supports nonprofit organizations and activists in Seoul.

“Power of Activity, Pan” was named with the intention of becoming a place that empowers public interest activists. The name “Pan” (P.A.N) signifies a mutual learning space where activists take pride (Pride), take action (Action), and form networks (Network) with each other.

The core functions are ?education information archiving ?education program curation ?learning management services. Educational information related to public interest activities, which was previously scattered across various institutions and organizations, can now be checked all at once on the platform “Power of Activity, Pan.”

Furthermore, it curates and guides educational information needed according to activity capabilities and career stages. It recommends education by competencies required for public interest activities such as strategic planning, leadership, collaboration and networking, and practical skills utilization, and also provides education according to career stages (preparatory, newcomers, leader activists, etc.). Various video lectures are also prepared to help deepen understanding of civil society, including its history and basic concepts. Additionally, users can manage their learning history themselves. When users scrap lectures they want to listen to or are interested in, these are automatically recorded and saved, allowing them to check their learning history anytime.

The Seoul NPO Support Center is holding a membership registration event for ten days until the 9th of next month to commemorate the opening of “Power of Activity, Pan.” Among the members who join during this period, 31 will be selected by lottery to receive small prizes.

Jung Ran-ah, Director of the NPO Support Center, said, “Through the learning platform ‘Power of Activity, Pan,’ we plan to organically connect people, resources, and information to strengthen the capabilities of public interest activists and continuously provide useful educational programs to new public interest activists and citizens entering the NPO ecosystem. We especially expect it to be useful for small organizations that find it difficult to conduct activist education on their own. We will continue to develop and provide specialized content for public interest activists in the future.”
