[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] The biological mother of a 3-year-old girl from Gumi, Gyeongbuk, who was found dead last month in a villa, has been revealed to be Ms. Seok (49), previously known as the maternal grandmother. It has also come to light that the child born to Ms. Kim (22), Seok’s daughter, was switched at the obstetrics clinic. Amid these revelations, Kim’s ex-husband’s statement on the program "Curious Story Y" that "the newborn bracelet was cut off" is gaining renewed attention.
Earlier, on the 19th, SBS’s "Curious Story Y" aired an episode titled "Gumi 3-Year-Old Child Death Case, Who Is the Biological Mother?"
On the show, Mr. Hong, Seok’s former son-in-law and Kim’s ex-husband, shared his feelings while showing photos of the child as a newborn, saying, "I thought the deceased child was my biological daughter."
Hong said, "The hospital once told me that the newborn bracelet was put on but was cut off." He also expressed suspicion, saying, "After giving birth, Kim did not go to a postpartum care center but went to her mother-in-law’s (Ms. Seok’s) house to recuperate." He then asked, "Where did my original child go?"
He continued, "Kim always dressed the child in expensive clothes and spent money meant for herself on the child," adding, "Who would have thought that someone who only cared about the child would do such a thing?" expressing his disbelief.
Netizens who watched the broadcast raised suspicions, commenting, "It’s suspicious that the bracelet was cut," and "Newborn bracelets cannot be broken by force unless cut intentionally."
Meanwhile, according to the Gumi Police Station in Gyeongbuk on the 26th, Ms. Seok switched the newborn blood samples of her own daughter and Kim’s biological daughter at an obstetrics clinic in Gumi three years ago before the blood test.
The police explained that the blood type recorded at birth for the newborn was type A, but Kim and Hong’s blood types are BB and AB respectively, making it impossible for their child to have type A. They noted that type A could have come from Ms. Seok and her ex-husband around the same time.
Additionally, the police revealed that the National Forensic Service (NFS) notified them of a "mismatch" after conducting genetic testing on the deceased child and the couple Kim and Hong.
Hong reportedly stated during the police investigation, "I divorced shortly after the child was born due to Kim’s infidelity," and "I took photos when the child was born and saw the child continuously, but I didn’t know the child had been switched."
The police secured clues through a search and seizure of the obstetrics clinic in the Gumi area and are investigating the specific motives and circumstances behind the switching.
