[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] On the 26th, Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong held a video conference with the heads of missions from 14 countries targeted for New Northern Policy cooperation, including Russia, Mongolia, and Belarus.
Minister Chung urged efforts to resume summit diplomacy, which was postponed last year due to the impact of COVID-19, to achieve tangible cooperation results centered on the '9 Bridges' with Russia, and to promote free trade agreements (FTA) with New Northern countries.
He also emphasized further development of the 'Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum,' a public-private multilateral cooperation body between Korea and five Central Asian countries, and actively advancing public diplomacy with the 11 New Northern countries, which will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
Kwon Gu-hoon, Chairman of the Northern Economic Cooperation Committee, who attended the meeting, requested the cooperation of each mission to ensure that post-COVID-19 cooperation tasks in healthcare, digital, and Green New Deal sectors lead to practical outcomes.
