[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] LS Group appointed Koo Dong-hwi, the eldest son of Koo Ja-yeol, chairman of LS Group, as the CEO of its affiliate E1. Going forward, E1 will operate under a three-person CEO system consisting of Koo Ja-yong, Koo Dong-hwi, and Cheon Jeong-sik.
On the 26th, E1 held a shareholders' meeting and board meeting at the LS Yongsan Tower in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and announced the new appointment of Koo Dong-hwi as COO (Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director) and Cheon Jeong-sik, head of the Technology Operations Division (Managing Director), as CEOs. With this, E1 transitions to a three-person individual CEO system with Koo Ja-yong as Chairman and CEO, Koo Dong-hwi as Executive Director and CEO, and Cheon Jeong-sik as Managing Director and CEO.
Chairman Koo oversees the core LPG business as well as the renewable energy sectors such as solar and wind power generation recently promoted by E1. Since June last year, E1 has expanded its business into the renewable energy field by completing an 8MW-class solar power plant in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, thereby enhancing its role as an eco-friendly energy supplier.
Newly appointed CEO Executive Director Koo will be responsible for establishing E1’s next-generation management strategies and focusing on securing future growth engines such as hydrogen-related businesses. Earlier this year, Koo moved from head of LS Value Management Division to COO of E1. Based on his experience and operational capabilities accumulated through roles at LS Electric’s Management Strategy Office, China Industrial Automation Division, and LS Value Management Division, he is expected to expand his role as a third-generation business leader.
Managing Director Cheon is responsible for managing technology, safety, and environmental areas. Cheon joined E1 in 1988 and is an expert in technology and safety, having served as head of the Technology Operations Team, Daesan Base Manager, Incheon Base Manager, and head of the Technology Operations Division. He is credited with helping E1 maintain its title as a zero-accident company for 37 years since it began operations in March 1984.
An E1 official stated, "To leap forward as a sustainable energy company, each CEO will strengthen responsible management based on their expertise."
