[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) has been selected for the second consecutive year in the ‘2021 Our Neighborhood Store Artterior’ contest hosted by Seoul City, securing a project budget of 150 million KRW.

Our Neighborhood Store Artterior is a compound word of ‘Art’ and ‘Interior,’ a project that supports the improvement of store design by matching small business owners’ stores with local artists majoring in painting, exhibition, crafts, and more.

The district applied for the contest with a plan to match local artists to 40 stores in the Shindaebang 1-dong alley commercial area for ▲renewal of store interiors and exteriors ▲product display design ▲printed material design work, and was finally selected this month.

This contest was promoted as a win-win collaboration where small business owners increase sales through interior improvements that highlight the characteristics of small stores, and local artists secure spaces to showcase their talents while generating income.

After establishing the project plan in April and selecting participating stores, the district plans to match 15 local artists to 40 stores starting in June to carry out the project.

In particular, stores that are small-scale or facing temporary business difficulties will be prioritized for selection to help them become self-reliant.

For more details about the project, inquiries can be made to the Economic Promotion Division.

Kim Jung-won, head of the Economic Promotion Division, said, “Through the Our Neighborhood Store Artterior contest, we will strive to promote coexistence between local small business owners and artists, create distinctive alley commercial areas, and revitalize the local economy.”

Meanwhile, last year, the district invested about 150 million KRW to connect small business owners and local artists, improving the design of over 40 stores in the Sangdo 4-dong Dokkaebi Market alley commercial area.
