[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Microchip Technology (Han Byung-don, Head of North Asia and Korea Representative) held the annual Microchip University Student Scholarship Program award ceremony in Seoul on the 24th and awarded scholarships to 32 electronic engineering students from 13 outstanding domestic universities.

Students who achieved excellent grades in lectures related to PIC® and AVR® microcontrollers (MCUs) targeting undergraduate and graduate students were selected, as well as students who participated in embedded design projects within industry-academia cooperation programs and achieved outstanding results.

In particular, excellent students who received scholarships participated in design tasks applying Microchip products in Internet of Things (IoT), security, automotive, medical, power control, smart farm and engineering, robot systems, and motor control applications.

Han Byung-don, Head of North Asia and Korea Representative of Microchip, said, “Microchip plays a key support role so that the next generation of domestic electronic engineering engineers can achieve their professional goals and hone the necessary capabilities,” adding, “Microchip plans to continue supporting domestic educational institutions to provide students with high-quality engineering education in various fields.”

Microchip spares no effort in supporting domestic universities in various ways, providing improved curriculum content, technical support, development tools, product samples, reference books, and materials.

For a richer and more practical curriculum, Microchip collaborated with more than five major universities and educational institutions last year to open new MCU and FPGA lectures using the latest educational materials. In addition, Microchip supported the opening of lectures on embedded security and MCUs at various universities and educational institutions aiming to nurture more than 400 future engineers.

Since starting the scholarship program in 2005, Microchip has awarded scholarships to more than 250 students in Korea, and as a result of these efforts, about half of the scholarship recipients have grown into MCU engineers across various industries.

The universities participating in the 2021 scholarship program are Korea University, Kwangwoon University, Gyeongnam National University, Kyungsung University, Kookmin University, Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, Mokpo National Maritime University, Bucheon University, Ajou University, Yonsei University, Jeonju University, Korea Polytechnic University, and Honam University.
