Publication of 'Silla Royal Capital and Wolseong Korean Literary Sources'
A book compiling and analyzing records of the Silla royal capital and Wolseong from the "Samguk Sagi" and "Samguk Yusa" has been published. It is titled "Silla Royal Capital and Wolseong Korean Literary Sources," published on the 25th by the National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute. The book selects content from each historical record, presenting the original text and its translation along with annotations.
When the annotated text appears in other historical records, the original text, translation, and similarities and differences in interpretation are explained. Additional notes are added if the content is lengthy. A representative explained, "We included explanations of terms necessary for understanding the Silla royal capital, names of major temples and government offices, and place names, incorporating the latest literary research and archaeological findings."
Entries related to relics such as temples include archaeological survey photos and lists of published survey reports, covering both literary records and survey results. The appendix contains a chronological table of major relic excavation surveys in the Gyeongju area after the Japanese colonial period, along with a list of survey reports. This can be accessed on the websites of the Cultural Heritage Administration and the National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute. The institute stated, "This is the first time that records of the Silla royal capital and Wolseong have been separately collected and organized," adding, "We hope it will serve as an important stepping stone for research on Silla’s history and culture."
