KT Launches AI and Big Data Initiatives to Prevent Voice Phishing

KT-Seoul Police Agency Sign MOU for 'Eradication and Prevention of Voice Phishing Using AI Big Data Technology'

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced that on the 25th, it will sign a "Business Agreement for the Prevention and Eradication of Voice Phishing" with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency at Seogyeongmaru of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

Through this agreement, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will provide KT with information secured through investigations such as voice phishing ▲crime types ▲report numbers ▲IP addresses, and KT will use artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technology to detect suspicious voice phishing numbers that have not been reported to the police and notify customers who receive calls from those numbers that they are suspected voice phishing numbers, thereby jointly establishing measures to prevent criminal activities.

Previously, responses could only be made to numbers confirmed through voice phishing reports or investigations, but once the prevention system is developed, it will be possible to estimate suspicious voice phishing numbers that criminal organizations intend to use and notify customers in advance, minimizing damage to KT customers.

Additionally, KT will establish an organic investigative cooperation system with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and actively cooperate in investigations by providing data to track voice phishing phone numbers originating from overseas.

Song Jae-ho, Head of KT AI·DX Convergence Business Division, stated, "We plan to utilize KT's AI and big data technology to reduce damage from voice phishing crimes," and added, "Together with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, we will establish a voice phishing damage prevention system that the public can trust."
