[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On the 20th anniversary of Asan Chung Ju-yung, Honorary Chairman of Hyundai Group, the extended Hyundai owner family gathered at Honorary Chairman Chung's former residence in Cheongun-dong.

According to Hyundai Motor Group on the 20th, on the evening before Honorary Chairman Chung's 20th anniversary, the Hyundai family gathered at the former residence in Cheongun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, to hold a memorial rite.

Although Asan's wife, Byeon Jung-seok's death anniversary is on August 16, since last year they decided to combine the memorial rites, so they held it together on this day.

This year's memorial rite was conducted simply, with attendees divided by time slots to sequentially perform the rites and leave, in compliance with COVID-19 quarantine guidelines, Hyundai Motor said.

The memorial rite was first attended by Chung Eui-sun, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman and eldest grandson of Honorary Chairman Chung, along with his wife. Following them were Chung Mong-joon, Chairman of Asan Nanum Foundation and son of Honorary Chairman Chung, Chung Mong-yoon, Chairman of Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, and Chung Mong-il, CEO of Hyundai Corporate Investment.

Honorary Chairman Chung's daughter-in-law, Hyun Jeong-eun, Hyundai Group Chairwoman, and nephew Chung Mong-won, Chairman of Halla Group, as well as grandchildren Chung Il-sun, CEO and President of Hyundai BNG Steel, Chung Ki-sun, Vice President of Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings, Chung Sung-yi, Advisor at Innocean, and her husband Seon Doo-hoon, Chairman of Daejeon Sun Hospital, were also present.

Chung Dae-sun, CEO of Hyundai BS&C, did not appear, but his mother Lee Haeng-ja and wife Noh Hyun-jung, former KBS announcer, attended.

Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-gu of Hyundai Motor Group was absent again this year, as he was last year.

The Hyundai family moved the memorial rite location from the Cheongun-dong residence to Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-gu's residence in Hannam-dong starting from the 9th anniversary of the late Byeon Jung-seok in August 2015, but since the 12th anniversary in August 2019, they have held it again in Cheongun-dong. The Cheongun-dong residence was inherited by Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-gu in 2001 and transferred ownership to Chairman Chung Eui-sun in March 2019.

The annual visit and tribute to the ancestral gravesite in Changwoo-dong, Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do, by the extended Hyundai family and group executives around Asan's death anniversary is expected to be scaled down considering the COVID-19 spread situation.

Chairman Chung Eui-sun and other group members will visit the gravesite around the 21st.
