According to the legal community on the 20th, Judge Kim Junhyuk of the Criminal Division 5 at the Seoul Central District Court sentenced A (27), who was indicted for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, to a fine of 2 million won.
A was prosecuted for causing anxiety by sending text messages such as "Let's just get married. I will go to your workplace and propose" a total of eight times in April of the following year after his girlfriend B (24), whom he was dating, broke up with him on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019.
It was investigated that A committed this crime due to wrongful obsession after B, his first girlfriend, notified him of the breakup. Among the text messages sent by A, threatening content such as "Let's date until we die, have children, I will definitely let you have them," and "Shall I visit you while you are working?" were also included.
A initially received a summary order for a fine of 2 million won from the prosecution but was referred to a formal trial. The court held two hearings and conducted questioning of A and others before sentencing the same fine. It is reported that A admitted to the charges in court and also submitted a letter of apology.
