[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Hollywood actors and famous pop stars in the United States raised their voices to mourn the victims of the Atlanta shooting incident, which resulted in the deaths of a total of eight people, including four Korean American women, and called for an end to hate crimes targeting Asians. Through social media (SNS), they used the hashtag "Stop Asian Hate" and urged fans to "take action right now."


Vietnamese-American actress Lana Condor, the lead in the popular Netflix movie "To All the Boys I've Loved Before," said, "Asian friends and family are living in fear," and pleaded, "Please stand with us."


Korean-American comedian Margaret Cho emphasized, "Killing six Asian women is a hate crime," and stated, "This incident is terrorism."

Chinese-American director Lulu Wang, who received acclaim for the film "The Farewell," which depicts the story of a Chinese immigrant family, expressed anger, saying, "The women who were victims of the shooting must have worked tirelessly to send their children to school and money home," and added, "It’s so painful that I don’t know what to say."


White and Black famous stars also showed solidarity. Academy Award-winning actress and model Gwyneth Paltrow posted on SNS, "I have deep affection for the Asian American community," and said, "You are making America better, and we love you."


Pop star John Legend, who is married to Thai-American model Chrissy Teigen and has a family, emphasized, "America must respond to threats targeting Asian American brothers and sisters."

Michael Jackson’s sister and famous pop star Janet Jackson also said, "I am heartbroken," and "I pray for all those affected by this tragic shooting."


Florence Pugh, who delivered outstanding performances in the films "The Falling" and "Lady Macbeth," stressed, "Asian women were targeted. This is white supremacy and murder targeting Asians." Pop star Rihanna mourned the victims, saying, "Hate against Asian Pacific Islanders is disgusting behavior."
