[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Seoul Metropolitan Government held a joint meeting on the 17th to improve the child abuse response system.
Attending the meeting were Jang Ha-yeon, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency; Song Da-young, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Women and Family Policy Office; Lee Young-sil, Chair of the Health and Welfare Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council; as well as related organizations such as the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Seoul Child Protection Agency, and experts including professors, medical professionals, and lawyers.
The meeting discussed the child abuse response system improvement tasks prepared by the task force (TF) formed earlier in January by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The main tasks include designating specialized medical institutions related to child abuse, establishing public review bodies, expanding protection facilities, and building a dedicated investigation system. These tasks will undergo further practical discussions to finalize the plan, which is scheduled to be fully implemented starting next month.
Commissioner Jang Ha-yeon of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "To fundamentally solve the problem of child abuse, overall system improvement is only possible through active cooperation among the police, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, child protection agencies, and experts." He added, "We will gather diverse opinions sufficiently to establish and promote high-quality policies that Seoul citizens can truly feel and experience."
