According to the business reports of the two companies released on the 16th, the average salary of Naver employees was 102,479,000 KRW, and NCSoft's was 105,495,000 KRW.
Naver and NCSoft are the first companies in the internet industry to have an average annual salary exceeding 100 million KRW.
The average annual salary per person is calculated by dividing the total annual compensation paid, including salary, incentives, and various allowances, by the average number of employees per month. Therefore, if there are many employees who did not receive total compensation for the entire year, such as mid-year hires, resignations, or leaves of absence, the actual average salary per person may differ.
In Naver's case, the number of mid-year hires last year reached 700, twice as many as in 2019, so the actual total compensation amount and growth rate are estimated to be higher.
As of 2019, among the top 500 companies in Korea, 33 companies recorded an average salary of 100 million KRW. Financial companies such as KB Financial Group, Hana Financial Group, NH Investment & Securities, Korean Reinsurance, Orange Life Insurance, and KB Securities were ranked within the top 10, and a total of 16 financial companies appeared within the top 30, indicating that the financial sector had the highest average salaries.
In addition, nine petrochemical companies including SK Energy, SK Incheon Petrochem, S-Oil, and GS Caltex were listed within the top 30. Excluding finance and petrochemicals, only Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS, SK Telecom, and SK Hynix were included in the top 30.
Samsung Electronics, whose business report was released last year, recorded an average employee salary of 127 million KRW in 2020, maintaining a high ranking. Samsung SDS recorded an average salary of 99 million KRW last year, falling short of the '100 Million KRW Club.'
