Jongno-gu Accepts Applications for the 7th National Yun Dong-ju Creative Music Festival and the 8th National Youth Yun Dong-ju Poetry and Calligraphy Contest... Music Festival Showcases Original Songs Based on the Poet's Lyrics

<Eternal Young Poet> Yoon Dong-ju Honored with Music Festival and Poetry Exhibition Opened Last Year's National Yun Dong-ju Creative Music Festival Awards Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] A person who embraced the pains of the era with his whole body and was engraved in the hearts of many as an unforgettable name for a long time.

A place to remember the eternal young poet who vowed to love all dying things through paintings and songs will be held.

Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) is accepting applications for the 7th National Yoon Dong-ju Creative Music Festival and the 8th National Youth Yoon Dong-ju Poetry and Painting Contest ahead of the ‘2021 Yoon Dong-ju Literature Festival’ held over two days on June 5 and 6.

The Yoon Dong-ju Creative Music Festival is an event showcasing original songs with the poet’s works as lyrics. Anyone can participate individually or as a band regardless of age, genre, or educational background.

Applications can be submitted by downloading the application form from the Jongno Cultural Foundation website by April 6, and sending the audio file or performance video along with the documents to the Yoon Dong-ju Literature Museum contact email (yoondongju@jfac.or.kr).

After audio screening and preliminary judging, the finals will be held on May 29 at the Poet’s Hill of the Yoon Dong-ju Literature Museum. A panel of experts will evaluate the works evenly based on utilization, delivery, poetic musicality, and expressiveness to select one team each for the Grand Prize, Gold Prize, Silver Prize, and Bronze Prize.

Winners will receive various opportunities including audio production, with prize money of 5 million KRW for the Grand Prize, 3 million KRW for the Gold Prize, 2 million KRW and 1 million KRW for the Silver and Bronze Prizes respectively, along with trophies.

The National Youth Yoon Dong-ju Poetry and Painting Contest is held for middle and high school students (including those with equivalent qualifications) to reflect on the poet’s literary philosophy and spirit of love for the nation.

Those wishing to participate should submit a poetry painting work themed on the poet’s works in a 4-verse (39cm x 54cm) size along with an application form by April 27 by visiting or mailing it to the Yoon Dong-ju Literature Museum (119 Changuimun-ro, Jongno-gu).

A total of 30 winners will be selected, divided into middle and high school categories, including Grand Prize, Gold Prize, Silver Prize, Bronze Prize, and Honorable Mention, with the awards ceremony held on June 5 at the Poet’s Hill of the Yoon Dong-ju Literature Museum.

Winners will be given the benefits of exhibiting their works in the poetry painting exhibition and publishing a collection of works.

Additionally, the Grand Prize winner will receive 500,000 KRW, the Gold Prize winner 300,000 KRW, and the Bronze and Silver Prize winners 200,000 KRW and 100,000 KRW respectively.

More detailed information about this year’s Yoon Dong-ju Creative Music Festival and Poetry and Painting Contest can be found on the Jongno Cultural Foundation website.

Inquiries can be made by contacting the Cultural Projects Team of the Jongno Cultural Foundation.

District Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, “Although poet Yoon Dong-ju is no longer with us, his poetry still remains, offering hope and comfort that encourages many people to look forward to tomorrow,” and added, “We ask for much interest and participation in this creative music festival and poetry and painting contest honoring the poet’s life and spirit.”

Meanwhile, in July 2012, Jongno-gu transformed an unused pressure station and water tank into the ‘Yoon Dong-ju Literature Museum’ to commemorate the poet’s national spirit, preserving their original forms.

The area around Cheongun-dong and Inwangsan Mountain, where the literature museum is located, is especially meaningful as it was where he enjoyed walks while boarding at the house of novelist Kim Song (Kim Song, 1909?1988) at 9 Nusan-dong during his time at Yeonhui College, leaving traces of the poet’s presence.

Nearby, along with the literature museum, ‘Poet’s Hill’ and ‘Cheongun Literature Library’ are located, making it a famous tourist attraction representing Jongno.
