[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] It has been revealed that a 30-year-old shaman who abused and killed his elementary school-aged nephew by assault and water torture had previously posted a petition demanding severe punishment for his father, who repeatedly committed crimes such as murder and sexual assault.
According to investigative authorities on the 14th, shaman A (34), who was arrested and indicted on charges including murder and child abuse under the Child Welfare Act on the 5th, is the daughter of B (53), who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the second trial for the murder of his wife that occurred in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, in March 2019.
B was prosecuted on charges of beating his wife to death for over 10 hours at their home in Jochon-dong, Gunsan City, then abandoning the body in a farm road and fleeing. It was revealed that the deceased wife was in a remarriage relationship with B and was not A’s biological mother.
At that time, a petition titled "I am the daughter of the suspect in the Gunsan wife murder case. Please help reveal my father’s murder and ensure he receives the appropriate punishment" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.
In the petition, presumed to have been posted by A, it stated, "My father is angry knowing that I am trying to reveal this murder case," and "I can no longer trust the law. I am in a situation where I must protect myself and my family."
The petitioner also said, "Before being a daughter, I am also a victim. I want to escape this nightmare I dream of every day." The petition received 40,742 agreements, falling short of the Blue House response threshold of 200,000.
In an interview with a broadcasting company at the time, the petitioner revealed that she had been subjected to continuous domestic violence from her father.
In other words, A, who was exposed to domestic violence from childhood, repeated abuse against her own nephew after becoming an adult.
Meanwhile, A was arrested and indicted along with her husband on the 7th for repeatedly tying her nephew’s hands and feet with a rope and submerging his head in bathtub water at their residence in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on the 8th of last month, causing his death. It was also revealed that the couple forced their nephew to lick the feces of a dog they were raising on January 20th. The couple recorded the abuse process in photos and videos, which the investigative agency secured as evidence.
Notably, the video reportedly contains audio of A telling her nephew, "A ghost has possessed you, so we must drive it out." Believing that the nephew was possessed by a ghost, A was investigated to have committed these crimes together with her husband.
