[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A childcare teacher who repeatedly abused a 4-year-old child at a daycare center in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, was arrested by the police.

The police announced on the 13th that they had booked A, a female childcare teacher in her 40s, without detention on charges of habitual child abuse under the Child Welfare Act.

Additionally, under the joint penalty provision, the daycare center director B (female) was also booked on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act.

A is accused of abusing a 4-year-old child at a daycare center in Bucheon from September 5 to November 3 of last year, including grabbing the child's wrist and throwing them down a total of 16 times.

After learning of the daycare teacher’s crimes, the victim’s parents reported and filed a complaint with the police. Upon reviewing two months’ worth of the daycare center’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police detected signs of abuse by A.

The victim’s parents described A’s actions captured on the CCTV footage on the Blue House National Petition Board, saying, "A grabbed the child’s wrist, lifted and threw the child down, and frequently snatched the wrist and arm. Even when the thrown child was crying, A just looked on."

They added, "When scolding the child, A took the child into the bathroom, a CCTV blind spot, then came out first, leaving the child alone for more than five minutes. When we said we would report it, A said, ‘If the mother thinks so, then you should do as you please.’"

The parents stated, "If the CCTV footage is thoroughly investigated, we believe more victims, including our child, will be found," urging a strict investigation and strong punishment.

A and B reportedly made statements to the police acknowledging the charges.

A police official said, "The victim child was not injured but was habitually abused multiple times by A," and added, "A and B were sent to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment."
