[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Is there ethics in artificial intelligence? What would happen if the brain and artificial intelligence merged? An interesting event unpacking the world of AI was held at Dongseo University.
The SW-Centered University Project Group at Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) successfully completed the ‘2021 Dongseo AI Unboxing’ on the 12th at the New Millennium Hall MOA.
This AI Unboxing event was an online fair where AI experts introduced various topics and issues related to AI, such as machine learning, AI ethics, brain-computer interfaces, and AI content, in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner.
Experts including Jeon Chang-bae (Director of the AI Ethics Association), Hwang Jun-ho (EVP and CEO of Smart Weaving Lab), Kim Dae-hong (Professor at Seoul Institute of the Arts), Han Chang-hee (Professor at Dongseo University), and Kim Ian (Director in charge of content at Pulse Nine) were invited to give special lectures on AI.
Director Jeon Chang-bae delivered a lecture titled ‘Artificial Intelligence and AI Ethics We Must Go Together,’ discussing ethical concepts and the necessity in AI technology through examples such as AI interviewers, the establishment of the AI God church, autonomous driving dilemmas, and the chatbot Iruda incident involving AI misuse.
Professor Kim Dae-hong gave a lecture titled ‘A Guide for Artists Traveling with Machine Learning,’ providing an intuitive explanation of AI technology and introducing cases and methods of artistic creation using AI. He also suggested directions for the development of AI integrated with art.
Professor Han Chang-hee of Dongseo University presented on ‘The Merger of Brain and AI! Brain-Computer Interface Technology,’ introducing technologies that use brain signals to control external devices.
He attracted attention with fascinating lectures on cases applied to patients in a vegetative state, environmental control cases for patients with quadriplegia, applications for patients with speech disorders, and control technologies for the general public.
Kim Ian, Director and Chief Producer of AI Content at Pulse Nine, introduced ‘The AI Content Production Story of a Video Production PD’ through a video presentation.
During the special lectures, students from the ‘AI+X Convergence Research Institute’ (which researches AI convergence technologies combining AI with various fields), operated by the SW-Centered University Project Group, also showcased ongoing projects.
Current projects introduced included Researcher Lee Hee-seung’s ‘AI-Based Online Exhibition Platform,’ Researcher Jin Hyun-seung’s ‘AI Health Trainer,’ and Researcher Yoo Sung-woon’s ‘Intersection Traffic Congestion Prediction System Using Conv-LSTM.’
Moon Mi-kyung, Director of the SW-Centered University Project Group, said, “We will expand accessibility to AI for students and citizens by providing AI technology and trends in an easy-to-understand storytelling format.”
