Expectations for Producing Field-Customized Aviation Maintenance Specialists
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Amid conflicts between Sacheon City and Incheon City over the aircraft maintenance business, Hwang Jae-eun, a member of the Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly, argued that establishing an aircraft maintenance training center is urgently needed to cultivate specialized aircraft maintenance personnel.
At the 383rd plenary session of the Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly held on the 11th, Assemblyman Hwang pointed out, "Currently, local personnel lack field experience, causing various difficulties for companies. To train the personnel that companies want, an aircraft maintenance training center in Sacheon is absolutely necessary." He asked whether there are plans to utilize related departments within the provincial university or to establish a related campus in Sacheon.
In response, Governor Kim Kyung-soo diagnosed, "The issue of customized workforce training is not only a problem for the aircraft maintenance business but also a problem across industries in the province." He added, "About 1,500 aircraft maintenance-related personnel are being trained at 14 schools including specialized high schools, junior colleges, and universities, and although the employment rate is not low, there is still a problem finding talent. I believe this is an issue that regional universities and companies need to discuss together."
He also mentioned the 'Regional Innovation Platform' project, which aims to build a Southeast education community, stating, "We will create a system where companies directly participate in nurturing the necessary talent." He responded, "In this process, we plan to create an environment where equipment and facilities can be shared jointly to foster skilled personnel."
Regarding the establishment of a Sacheon campus for the provincial university's aircraft maintenance-related department, he stated, "We plan to reorganize in line with the restructuring direction of regional national and public universities to create a structure that can sufficiently cultivate high-quality talent locally."
Additionally, Assemblyman Hwang urged the increase of dedicated librarians for school libraries under the jurisdiction of the provincial Office of Education and the effective promotion of projects in the aviation vocational education innovation district, calling for a transition to practical future education policies.
