[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) will further strengthen the role of the Dongdaemun Career and Job Experience Support Center, which operates to support career and job experience activities for local elementary, middle, and high school students this year.
This initiative aims to reorganize career experience programs to cope with the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and meet the demand for education related to future industries.
The Dongdaemun Career and Job Experience Support Center, which provides career experience education centered on the free semester system for local youth, operated 23 programs across 5 fields in 2020.
In particular, amid the COVID-19 situation, it took the lead among 25 autonomous districts by utilizing experience kits and provided about 100 online career contents through the YouTube channel ‘WarakTube,’ receiving great responses.
Thanks to the well-organized programs, 59,508 students participated in 2020, which is a 45% increase compared to 2019.
This year, a total of 9 fields of education will be provided both online and offline, including ▲‘On-site Job Experience’ exploring workplaces ▲‘Campus Mentoring’ introducing university life and departments ▲‘Dream Bridge 7’ where professionals directly introduce their jobs ▲‘Competency Discovery Program,’ a specialized program for elementary students, as well as focusing on expanding career education experiences in promising jobs of the 4th industrial era such as ▲5 ‘New Occupation Special Lectures’ including AI experts, information security experts, and big data experts ▲‘Future Convergence Classroom’ to understand future jobs like drone experts and biometric recognition experts.
This year’s educational programs will be conducted in asynchronous (recorded) formats, Zoom, and YouTube live streams in accordance with the COVID-19 situation, and will switch to face-to-face methods through consultation with schools once the situation improves.
Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “I hope that students in our region will discover their creative capabilities through career education and design their career paths suited to their aptitudes,” adding, “We will continue to strive for educational development in the future.”
