Enhancing Exercise Quality Through Training Led by Former Leaders
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] On the 9th, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the Nogodan Sports Club has resumed activities, revitalizing the bodies and minds of the residents who had been withdrawn due to COVID-19.
Since its establishment as a corporation in 2019, the Nogodan Sports Club has been operating programs by recruiting members in five sports: table tennis, badminton, soccer, archery, and traditional Korean archery (Gungdo). However, it faced difficulties in revitalization due to repeated suspensions caused by COVID-19 and unprecedented flooding of the Seomjin River last year.
Although the risk of COVID-19 still exists, the club is reorganizing itself and making continuous efforts to recruit members and expand programs to help residents regain a healthy daily life.
By hiring an additional full-time instructor for table tennis, a sport favored by all age groups from youth to elderly, and utilizing the Gurye Multipurpose Gymnasium, completed last year, as an exclusive arena, the satisfaction level of about 80 members has increased.
The badminton club has recruited about 30 members and is improving the quality of exercise through professional instructor training.
Archery, being developed as an elite sport, is striving to maintain its existing reputation by discovering 16 new members through improved training facilities and instructor placement at Jungang Elementary School.
Soccer is being coached in cooperation with schools for 18 elementary and middle school students.
Kim Sun-ho, the governor of Gurye-gun, said, “We will support club activities to spread a healthy and vibrant atmosphere of social integration and strive to nurture excellent sports talents.”
Meanwhile, the Gurye Nogodan Sports Club was selected in 2019 for the Sports Club Public Contest project hosted by the Korea Sports Council and has been operating five sports?table tennis, badminton, soccer, archery, and Gungdo?with 600 million KRW in national funding over three years.
Table tennis and badminton are held at the Gurye Multipurpose Gymnasium, soccer at the auxiliary stadium of the public sports ground, and archery at the Jungang Elementary School archery practice range.
