[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 9th that it will implement the ‘Living Area Tree Diagnosis Private Consulting Project’ from March to October to provide safe and appropriate pesticide prescriptions for trees and professional tree diagnosis services to citizens.

The tree diagnosis consulting service is a tree diagnosis service that provides accurate diagnosis of damage and proper management methods through private (tree hospital) tree diagnosis experts for trees that are diseased due to pests or pathogens, damaged by incorrect pesticide use, or harmed by natural disasters.

According to the Forest Protection Act, tree diagnosis can only be performed through a tree hospital with a certified tree doctor or tree treatment technician, except when the owner directly diagnoses the tree. Performing treatment without qualifications or without registering a tree hospital not only results in improper treatment but also violates the Forest Protection Act, which can lead to a fine of up to 5 million won.

Accordingly, the city secured a budget of 8 million won this year to promote the tree doctor system and provide accurate tree damage diagnosis and management plans by experts, and will promote free tree diagnosis for apartments, school forests, and social, welfare, and youth facilities within the jurisdiction.

Institutions or organizations wishing to receive tree damage diagnosis can submit an application to the Gimhae City Forestry Division to receive free diagnosis and prescriptions from tree experts. Support is provided to the first 25 applicants on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Gimhae City official stated, “Through this service, we expect to contribute not only to timely control of tree pests and diseases and prevention of misuse of highly toxic pesticides but also to the establishment of a specialized diagnosis system by providing accurate diagnosis and management methods for tree damage.”
