[Asia Economy Reporters Juyoun Oh, Juni Park] Despite the resignation of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and the LH scandal, President Moon Jae-in's approval rating showed little change compared to the previous survey. This is analyzed to be because the so-called 'concrete support base' of people in their 30s and 40s firmly upheld him.

In a survey conducted on the 6th and 7th commissioned by Asia Economy to Win-G Korea Consulting, the approval rating of the president among Seoul citizens was 46.7%. The percentage of those who 'do not support' was 49.9%, within the margin of error. The results from the January 30th-31st survey were 46.8% approval and 49.3% disapproval.

The reason why no immediate change in approval rating was observed despite consecutive adverse events appears to be the strong support from people in their 30s and 40s.

The approval ratings of these age groups far exceeded the overall respondent average, at 54.7% and 61.6%, respectively. Especially among those in their 30s, the approval rating rose by 7.6 percentage points compared to the survey in the 5th week of January, marking the largest increase among all age groups. People in their 30s are the age group where 6 out of 10 respondents answered 'inappropriate' regarding the suitability of former Prosecutor General Yoon's entry into politics (Realmeter, commissioned by YTN, survey of 500 people aged 18 and over nationwide on the 5th). In this survey as well, the 30s and 40s age groups evaluated Yoon's mid-term resignation as a 'wrong act' at the highest rates among all age groups (35.2%, 36.0%).

Party approval ratings were 33.0% for the Democratic Party and 27.3% for the People Power Party. The gap between the two parties' approval ratings was 5.7 percentage points, within the margin of error.

Approval ratings for parties other than the two major ones were 7.7% for the People’s Party, 6.4% for the Open Democratic Party, 4.8% for the Justice Party, and 2.4% for other parties. The non-affiliated group was 18.6%. Party approval ratings also showed little change compared to the impact of a series of issues.

The Democratic Party decreased by 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous survey in the 5th week of January. The People Power Party increased by 0.3 percentage points.

▶This survey was conducted on January 6-7 with 1,002 men and women aged 18 and over residing in Seoul, using 100% mobile phone virtual number ARS method. The survey sample utilized the resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of January, and weighting was applied by gender, age, and region (cell weighting). The response rate was 8.3%, and the sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
