Gwangju City Announces Call for Subcontractors for Regional Culture and Arts Education Infrastructure Project

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 8th that it is recruiting subcontractors for the ‘Regional Specialized Culture and Arts Education - Neighborhood Arts Learning Center Gwangju RE’ and the ‘Saturday Culture School - Weekend Arts Learning Center.’

The ‘Regional Specialized Culture and Arts Education - Neighborhood Arts Learning Center Gwangju RE’ and the ‘Saturday Culture School - Weekend Arts Learning Center’ are being promoted as part of a regional culture and arts education infrastructure project aimed at realizing everyday culture and arts education for cultural and arts education organizations active in the region.

This recruitment will be implemented with a total investment of 650 million KRW, hosted by the Gwangju Cultural Foundation and in cooperation with the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.

First, the ‘Regional Specialized Culture and Arts Education - Neighborhood Arts Learning Center Gwangju RE’ is a project that develops and operates cultural and arts education programs that achieve the gathering, experimentation, and growth of regional resources, supporting cultural and arts education organizations that can form a space for citizen participation.

It aims to discover a ‘culture and arts education model integrated with life’ that can be applied in everyday settings by utilizing local social and cultural resources. The recruitment is divided into two types: planning and general, with a support scale of 300 million KRW.

The planning type selects organizations that operate mid- to long-term Gwangju-type culture and arts education programs reflecting regional characteristics, supporting about three organizations for up to three years based on annual performance evaluations. The general type selects about 20 organizations that can conduct culture and arts education programs reflecting the local cultural environment and resident demand, with support ranging from 10 million to 20 million KRW per organization.

The ‘Saturday Culture School - Weekend Arts Learning Center’ is an out-of-school culture and arts education program for children, adolescents, and families, supporting cultural and arts institutions and organizations to operate educational programs that make everyday life enjoyable through artistic imagination and play. The support scale is 350 million KRW, and recruitment is divided into general and planning (incubating) types.

The general type selects about 20 organizations to operate 25 sessions of educational programs annually, supporting up to 25 million KRW per organization. The planning (incubating) type, aimed at discovering and supporting emerging organizations, selects about five organizations that are either newly operating or have less than three experiences in operating culture and arts education support projects, supporting 5 million to 10 million KRW per organization.

Eligibility requirements are ▲organizations based in Gwangju and ▲organizations holding a business registration certificate (unique number certificate). Dual applications for the two projects are possible, but only one project (program) per organization will be supported at the final selection stage.

Organizations wishing to participate in this recruitment can download the application form from the Gwangju Cultural Foundation or Gwangju Culture and Arts Education Support Center websites and submit it via the National Subsidy Integrated Management System (e-Naradoom) by 6 p.m. from the 12th to the 19th. Detailed information can be found at the Gwangju Cultural Foundation.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, no separate briefing session will be held.

Kim Jun-young, Director of the City’s Culture, Tourism, and Sports Office, said, “We will do our best to foster a healthy leisure culture where families, including children and adolescents, can experience various culture and arts education, cultivate cultural and artistic literacy, and communicate with peers and family.”
