13 Projects Requesting 724.4 Billion Won, Seeking National Funding

Kim Kyung-ho, Deputy Mayor of Gwangyang City, Visits Central Government Departments to Propose Next Year's Key Projects


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City announced on the 8th that it has begun swift efforts to secure national funding for next year.


Kim Kyung-ho, Deputy Mayor of Gwangyang City, visited the Government Sejong Complex to meet with senior officials from central government ministries, explaining 13 pending projects with a total budget of 797.2 billion KRW (national funding 724.4 billion KRW) and actively requested national funding support for next year.


For projects aimed at port revitalization and waterfront space creation, the city proposed to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries: ▲ Gwangyang Marine Bay Development Project with 40 billion KRW (fully funded by the national government), ▲ Construction of the National Marine Port Industry Hall with 200 billion KRW (fully national funding), ▲ Marine Leisure Tourism Hub Contest with 40 billion KRW (20 billion KRW national funding), and ▲ Opening of the road connecting Gwangyang Port and Yulchon Industrial Complex with 311.8 billion KRW (fully national funding).


For projects to improve residents' quality of life, the city proposed to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety: ▲ Construction of the National Volunteer Training Center with 40 billion KRW (fully national funding); to the Ministry of Environment: ▲ Restoration of Seonghwang Urban Ecological Axis Project with 10 billion KRW (7 billion KRW national funding); and to the Korea Forest Service: ▲ Urban Wind Path Forest Creation Project with 20 billion KRW (10 billion KRW national funding) and ▲ Living Proximity Forest (Outdoor Garden) Creation Project with 1 billion KRW (500 million KRW national funding).


For major SOC expansion projects, the city proposed to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport: ▲ Improvement of the Se-pung IC Intersection on National Road No. 2 with 5.6 billion KRW (fully national funding) and ▲ Expansion and Paving of the Gwangyang Port Hinterland Road with 22.8 billion KRW (3.4 billion KRW national funding).


To secure national funding for next year, the city held three national funding proposal project discovery meetings: the first in September last year, the second in December, and the final in January this year, discovering a total of 308 projects requesting 344.7 billion KRW in national funding.


Jung Hyun-bok, Mayor of Gwangyang City, stated, “Securing national funding is essential for the smooth progress of regional pending projects,” and added, “I hope all staff will fully understand the government budget formulation schedule and respond proactively with all their efforts to secure national funding.”


Deputy Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “To expedite the progress of regional pending projects, I will persuade Jeollanam-do Province and related ministries to ensure the national budget for next year is secured without any setbacks.”
