On International Women's Day, SNS Message... "We Pay Tribute to All Women, Including Comfort Women Victims"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] "We will create a world where women can take on leadership roles with equal rights in every field." On the 8th, President Moon Jae-in conveyed this message on social network services (SNS) in celebration of 'International Women's Day.'
President Moon stated, "This year's theme for 'International Women's Day,' set by UN Women, is Women's Leadership: Realizing an Equal Future in a COVID World," and pointed out, "Korea is at a very shameful level in this area." He pledged, "When women work more in more places without career interruptions, inclusive recovery and leap forward will also accelerate. The government will set higher goals to lead by example."
In particular, President Moon emphasized, "Reflecting on Korea's modern history, which was even more difficult for women including the comfort women victims, I pay tribute to all women who have steadfastly elevated the status of women."
President Moon also quoted novelist Park Wan-seo's writing, "What I see and feel is more important to me." He explained, "A passage from Park Wan-seo's novel 'My Most Beloved Thing' comes to mind. For a long time, we had to live lives defined by those around us, and women faced several times more difficulties."
President Moon evaluated, "However, there were women who overcame prejudice and discrimination to find themselves, and thanks to them, we have learned and practiced how to respect each other's feelings and lives."
President Moon said, "Even amid the hardships of COVID, women have been the backbone of overcoming the crisis and have endured more pain. I deeply thank them and also feel a heavy sense of responsibility. I hope the day will come when we can proudly celebrate 'International Women's Day.'"
