[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] KCC announced on the 8th that it conducted volunteer activities to help recover from fire damage at the Cheonggye Flower Complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the 5th.

About 50 people participated in the volunteer activities, including the KCC Happiness Sharing Volunteer Group composed of KCC and its affiliates' executives and employees, Seocho Fire Station, volunteer firefighters, and the Seocho Volunteer Center. The volunteer activities were carried out in strict compliance with COVID-19 prevention and quarantine guidelines.

The Cheonggye Flower Complex is a dense area of flower and residential vinyl greenhouses along Cheonggyesan-ro in Seocho-gu, Seoul. A fire broke out on the 1st, causing one casualty and completely destroying three vinyl greenhouses, resulting in significant property damage. KCC joined forces with related organizations such as Seocho Fire Station to actively support local residents in overcoming the difficulties they faced.

The volunteers organized flowers, bonsai, and household items that were completely destroyed by the fire and refurbished the area around the damaged greenhouses. They replaced the water tank used collectively by the flower complex and also provided firefighting equipment such as fire extinguishers.

A fire victim from the flower complex expressed tears, saying, "I am truly grateful that so many people came to help with the recovery. Especially, since the water tank was burned in the fire, I was very worried about flower cultivation, but replacing it has greatly eased my concerns."

A KCC official said, "Although it is a small support, we are glad it helped restore the damage suffered by our neighbors in the flower complex. We are always thankful to the fire station personnel who safely extinguished the fire as members of the community, and we will continue to show KCC’s commitment to coexistence and development with the local area."
