“Includes YouTube Premium in Plans” LGU+ Launches ‘YouTube Premium Pack’

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] YouTube will be available without ads on the U+ plan.

LG Uplus announced on the 8th that it will launch a subscription service product called ‘YouTube Premium Pack’ on the 15th, which provides the ‘YouTube Premium’ subscription service together with 5G·LTE communication services. Customers who subscribe to this plan can use the YouTube Premium service, which costs 10,450 KRW per month (VAT included), free of charge. This is the first time in Korea that YouTube Premium has been linked with a communication plan.

YouTube Premium is a paid service launched in 2015 that allows users to enjoy ▲ad-free viewing ▲background play ▲offline viewing by downloading ▲YouTube Music Premium all at once, and the number of subscribers has been steadily increasing.

The YouTube Premium Pack is a package product that links YouTube Premium with LG Uplus’s unlimited 5G·LTE data plans. It is the sixth package following ▲‘Netflix Pack’ which provides Netflix as a basic service ▲‘Cloud Game Pack’ which allows free use of streaming game GeForce NOW ▲‘Smart Home Pack’ which offers free use of Google Home IoT ▲‘Elementary Country Pack’ which provides popular elementary education content for free ▲‘Smart Device Pack’ which offers a 50% discount on the world’s first 5G AR glasses ‘U+ Real Glass’.

The YouTube Premium Pack can be selected when subscribing to four plans: ‘5G·LTE Premier Plus’, ‘5G Premier Super’, and ‘5G Signature’. These plans provide unlimited 5G·LTE data at monthly fees of 105,000 KRW, 115,000 KRW, and 130,000 KRW (VAT included), respectively. When applying a 25% discount on communication fees, LG Uplus’s contract discount benefit ‘LTE Fee As Is’, and combined discounts for family and acquaintances, the monthly fees can be reduced to a maximum of 53,500 KRW, 61,000 KRW, and 77,500 KRW (VAT included), respectively.

Customers who wish to use the YouTube Premium Pack must complete customer authentication and register their Google account through the website or customer center app. If the customer changes to a plan that does not provide the YouTube Premium Pack, the free benefit will also be lost.

Lee Sangheon, Head of Consumer Business Innovation Group (Executive Director) at LG Uplus, said, “In the untact environment caused by COVID-19, the demand for so-called ‘streaming tribe’ in the content market such as OTT, cloud games, and music services has become clear, and the YouTube Premium package is the result of preparations made since the second half of last year to meet these customer demands.” He added, “We will continue to introduce various linked products so that customers can enjoy desired content sufficiently with a single plan without the hassle of subscribing and using each service separately.”
