Died at the Age of 93
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Professor Emeritus Min Heon-gi of Seoul National University passed away at 10:30 AM on the 6th. He was 93 years old.
He was born in Seoul in 1928 and graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1951. He served as a military doctor during the Korean War. Afterwards, he held positions such as Professor of Internal Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital, and personal physician to former President Park Chung-hee.
He also served as President of the Korean Endocrine Society, Korean Diabetes Association, Korean Society of Internal Medicine, Korean Rheumatology Society, and the Western Pacific Region of the International Diabetes Federation. He was a senior member of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences and a lifetime member of the National Academy of Science and Technology. He received the Moran Medal of the Order of Civil Merit and the Dong-A Medical Culture Award.
He laid the foundation for endocrine metabolism research in Korea. He contributed to the establishment of the Korean Endocrine Society and the Korean Diabetes Association, and published the first domestic endocrinology textbook, Clinical Endocrinology.
Survived by his wife Lee Woon-kyung (former director of Lee Woon-kyung Internal Medicine Clinic), sons Kyung-jip (former CEO of LG Hausys) and Kyung-joo (CEO of 3cho-ui Mabeop), and daughters-in-law Lee Myo-hyun and Lee Sun-min.
The funeral is being held at Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall Room 1, with the funeral procession scheduled for 6 AM on the 9th.
