[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor's hydrogen electric vehicle Nexo has seen a significant increase in sales since the beginning of the year. Hyundai plans to more than double Nexo's production compared to last year.
According to Hyundai on the 7th, Nexo sold 710 units domestically in January and February this year, a 35.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
The cumulative domestic sales since its launch reached a total of 11,417 units as of last month. Nexo ranks first in sales among hydrogen electric vehicle models worldwide.
Due to the increase in sales, Hyundai decided to expand Nexo's production from 6,459 units last year to over 17,000 units this year.
Additionally, Hyundai is reportedly internally reviewing the possibility of increasing production of the first dedicated electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5, which was unveiled last month.
The Ioniq 5 set a new record with about 23,000 pre-orders on the first day, and about 35,000 units were contracted within a week, exceeding this year's domestic sales target of 26,500 units.
