Patent Office Launches 'National Safety Invention Challenge' Idea Contest

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced on the 7th that it will jointly hold the ‘2021 National Safety Invention Challenge’ idea contest with the National Police Agency, the National Fire Agency, and the Korea Coast Guard.

The contest targets field officers from the police, fire, and coast guard agencies. The purpose is to discover ideas based on the actual experiences of these officers in the field, refine them through intellectual property experts, and support their rights and commercialization.

The contest period is from April 8 to May 31. Field officers from the police, fire, and coast guard agencies can submit up to five ideas each on the National Safety Invention Challenge website. The contest theme is ideas related to national safety that can be immediately applied in the fields of disaster and public security.

Submitted ideas will be evaluated comprehensively by field and intellectual property experts based on originality, practical applicability in the field, and commercialization potential.

Subsequently, KIPO plans to select eight final ideas from each agency (a total of 24 ideas) and provide consulting through professional patent agencies to help develop these ideas into inventions.

Additionally, follow-up measures such as exhibitions, promotions, technology transfers, and overseas applications will be supported to ensure that the ideas can be practically utilized in public security and disaster response fields.
