[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] As Hyundai Motor's first dedicated electric vehicle Ioniq 5 continues its success, interest is also growing in Kia's CV (project name) and Genesis' JW (project name), which are considered sibling models of the Ioniq 5.

According to industry sources on the 6th, Hyundai Motor's Ioniq 5 sold about 23,760 units on the first day of domestic pre-orders, which is approximately 90% of its annual sales target of 26,500 units. It also succeeded in generating excitement in Europe by selling out a limited quantity of 3,000 units during pre-orders.

This success is attributed to a combination of factors, including being the first vehicle equipped with Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP, a price range (52 million to 57.5 million KRW) that qualifies for the full government zero-emission vehicle subsidy, and the application of new technologies such as 'V2L (Vehicle to Load),' which allows the use of external home appliances and electronic devices powered by the electric vehicle's battery.

With the Ioniq 5's success, public attention is naturally focused on whether Kia's second dedicated electric vehicle model, the CV, will also achieve a 'double success.' The Kia CV shares many similarities with the Ioniq 5, including being a dedicated electric vehicle based on the E-GMP platform and being a crossover utility vehicle (CUV).

Although the specific model name of the CV has not yet been disclosed, Kia previously announced through a new brand showcase that future dedicated electric vehicle model names will be set as EV1 through EV9. Kia aims to unveil the CV and start pre-orders this month, with plans to launch it within the first half of the year.

Genesis, Hyundai Motor's premium brand, is also preparing to launch its first dedicated electric vehicle, the JW, in the second half of the year. The JW is expected to be one of the three electric vehicle models forming Hyundai Motor Group's electric vehicle triangle this year, alongside the Ioniq 5 and CV. The JW will also be based on the E-GMP platform and is anticipated to be released as a CUV model like the Ioniq 5 and CV. Industry observers expect the JW to demonstrate enhanced performance compared to the previous two models, given its later unveiling and production schedule as well as its premium brand status.
