Dongdaemun-gu Donkatsu Dosirak Delivery CEO Choi Gyu-seon Supports Low-Income Youth with Dosirak Meals

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Amid the economic difficulties faced by self-employed individuals due to COVID-19, there is a business owner providing free meals to low-income youth.

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) announced that Choi Gyu-seon, the owner of a pork cutlet lunchbox delivery business in Jangan 2-dong (Dongjang Choi Byeong-hee), has been supporting 30 low-income youth households in the area with pork cutlet lunchboxes every month since September last year.

Choi Gyu-seon started the lunchbox support program simultaneously with the opening of his business last year and has delivered lunchboxes to over 200 youth households to date.

Choi said, “I feel happier when I share lunchboxes with children, so I believe sharing is something I do for myself. Anyone can do it if they set their mind to it, so I feel shy receiving attention,” adding, “I will continue to provide lunchboxes steadily so that no child goes hungry.”

Choi kindly prepares and serves pork cutlet lunchboxes on the spot to low-income youth who visit his store with coupons received from the Jangan 2-dong Community Service Center, especially during the challenging times of COVID-19 when dining out is difficult.

Choi’s kindness and the delicious taste of his food have resulted in very high satisfaction among the lunchbox recipients.

Meanwhile, Dongdaemun-gu is conducting the ‘Bodeumnuri’ project to care for residents living in welfare blind spots. Through this project, about 1,500 ordinary residents in the area serve as Hope Welfare Committee members, donating money and goods, providing care, and volunteering their talents. Choi, who supports the lunchboxes, is also active as a Hope Welfare Committee member in Jangan 2-dong.

Choi Byeong-hee, head of Jangan 2-dong, expressed gratitude, saying, “The Jangan 2-dong Hope Welfare Committee and its members have been steadily carrying out sharing activities despite difficult circumstances to resolve welfare blind spots in the area. We are thankful that many people practice sharing even in tough times.”
