Certification of the Department of Broadcasting and Video, Major in Social Welfare, Department of Food and Nutrition, Department of Software, and School of Design
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] What are the five majors that Dongseo University has self-certified for their major curricula?
Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) awarded certification plaques on the 5th to the Departments of Broadcasting and Video, Social Welfare, Food and Nutrition, Software, and the School of Design, which obtained Level 2 operational certification in the 2020 academic year Major Curriculum Self-Certification System.
The Major Curriculum Self-Certification System is an academic system developed and implemented by Dongseo University in 2019 to manage the quality of major curricula.
It is a system that analyzes the university development plan and actual job tasks in career fields to self-evaluate the composition, operation, and outcomes of the curriculum, and grants certification after strict review of the results.
In the 2019 academic year, 26 majors obtained Level 1 certification, and in the 2020 academic year, three interdisciplinary majors obtained Level 1 certification, while five majors obtained Level 2 certification.
Among the three-level certification model, Level 2 operational certification revalidates the appropriateness of the organized curriculum. It involves preparing a self-evaluation report based on the handbook, including establishing operational strategies such as setting learning outcomes and conducting class evaluations for quality management of class operations, followed by review.
Through rigorous evaluation by a panel including three external members, five majors have obtained Level 2 operational certification this time.
Majors that have obtained certification will receive incentives in department evaluations and faculty performance evaluations, and priority support will be provided for improving the educational environment.
President Jang Je-guk of Dongseo University said, “The paradigm shift in higher education has accelerated due to COVID-19. While organizing major curricula that can cultivate major competencies is important, it is even more important to evaluate operations and outcomes and to seek improvements, so we plan to establish the self-certification system.”
