[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Hyundai Department Store announced on the 5th that it will strengthen voluntary quarantine measures for 'The Hyundai Seoul,' which recently opened in Yeouido, Seoul.
The Hyundai Seoul plans to temporarily encourage voluntary participation in a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) vehicle two-day number plate system for customers visiting by car throughout March.
This voluntary vehicle two-day number plate system aims to encourage visits from vehicles with even-numbered license plates on weekend even dates (6th, 14th, 20th, 28th) and vehicles with odd-numbered license plates on weekend odd dates (7th, 13th, 21st, 27th).
The Hyundai Seoul will also temporarily suspend the 'The Hyundai Seoul free parking (2 hours)' benefit provided to Hyundai Department Store card members during weekends in March.
Hyundai Department Store plans to send text messages containing information about the weekend voluntary vehicle two-day number plate system implementation and temporary suspension of free parking benefits to 10 million H Point members, the integrated membership of Hyundai Department Store Group, and notify customers through its website to encourage voluntary participation.
During weekends, The Hyundai Seoul will install information boards at nearby subway stations such as Yeouido Station and Yeouinaru Station, as well as at underground passage entrances connected to the subway, allowing customers to check the store congestion level and decide whether to visit.
A Hyundai Department Store official said, "We appreciate the high interest and response to The Hyundai Seoul, but since customers' health and safety must be prioritized, voluntary and active cooperation from customers is required despite some inconvenience."
Hyundai Department Store also plans to strengthen its own quarantine and hygiene management by raising social distancing operation standards within the store to ensure the safety of customers visiting 'The Hyundai Seoul.'
They will reduce the number of customers allowed simultaneously in major congested and crowded stores, which are popular hot spots, by 30% each to strengthen distancing, and reduce queues in front of stores through a pre-reservation system.
To prevent crowding inside customer elevators, the boarding capacity will be reduced by about 40%, from 24 to 15 people, and the indoor ventilation frequency, previously conducted 6 times per hour, will be increased to 12 times per hour to maximize air circulation and external discharge.
A Hyundai Department Store official said, "To comply with and actively participate in the government's social distancing guidelines, we did not hold any gathering events related to the opening of The Hyundai Seoul," adding, "We also plan not to hold large-scale promotional events or campaigns in the future."
Meanwhile, considering the 'With Corona' situation, Hyundai Department Store has been operating an advanced quarantine system since the opening of 'The Hyundai Seoul.' First, large multi-recognition fever checkers used in airports are operated at all seven external entrances, and portable thermal cameras and facial recognition fever checkers are installed at three vehicle entrances and underground entrances to check customers' fever status individually.
In addition, ventilation is conducted on all floors through the country's best air conditioning system, air sterilizers have been separately installed in major customer facilities to strengthen air circulation inside the store, and the entire department store space is disinfected daily.
