Yeongdeok-gun, Two Locations Hwasu and Baekseok-ri Selected in Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Saetteul Village' Contest

40 Billion KRW Invested in Living Condition Improvement Project Including 3 Billion KRW National Funding

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Yeongdeok County announced on the 5th that Hwasu 1-ri in Yeongdeok-eup and Baekseok 1-ri in Byeonggok-myeon were finally selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2021 Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project (Saetteul Village) contest. Accordingly, a total of 4 billion KRW (including 3 billion KRW in national funds) will be invested in these two locations over the next four years.

The Saetteul Village project is a resident living condition improvement initiative that renovates housing in rural fishing villages vulnerable to safety and hygiene issues, prevents disaster risks, and establishes various living infrastructures.

Yeongdeok County, which has been declared a special disaster area for three consecutive years, plans to transform the two selected villages into safe communities free from disasters. According to Yeongdeok County, after consulting with related agencies and collecting residents' opinions, the project will be actively promoted starting in the second half of the year.

In Yeongdeok County, starting with Chuksan Singi Village in 2017, four villages have been selected for the Saetteul Village project so far: Hwasu 2-ri and Daetan-ri in Yeongdeok in 2019, and Sowol-ri in Ganggu in 2020.

Lee Hee-jin, the mayor of Yeongdeok County, pledged, "We will continue to focus on and make efforts toward vulnerable areas to secure a foundation to breathe new life into rural fishing areas and improve residents' quality of life."
