GC Green Cross I-Med Introduces AI Solution for Fundus Image Analysis

[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] GC Green Cross I-Med (Director Kim Sang-man) announced on the 5th that it has introduced the AI-based fundus reading solution ‘Vuno Med Fundus AI’ to its Gangnam and Gangbuk clinics.

This is the first case of a domestic health screening center adopting an AI-based fundus examination system, enabling faster and more accurate fundus examinations.

Fundus examination is a test that captures images of the fundus, which consists of the retina, optic nerve, and retinal blood vessels, playing an important role in vision. It helps in the early detection of fundus diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma, which are the three major causes of blindness.

Vuno Med Fundus AI is an AI-based system that analyzes a patient’s fundus images in just 2 seconds and presents the presence or absence of 12 findings including causes of blindness and abnormal lesions. Recognized for its technological innovation, it was designated as Korea’s first innovative medical device in July last year.

The fundus image reading technology applied in this product ranked first in global medical image analysis competitions such as the ‘Age-related Macular Degeneration Reading Challenge’ at the International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI 2020), the ‘Diabetic Retinopathy Reading Challenge’ at ISBI 2018, and the ‘Glaucoma Diagnosis Challenge’ at the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI 2018).

Additionally, clinical research published in the SCI-level international journal Ophthalmology demonstrated excellent accuracy with normal/abnormal classification performance scores of 96.2% to 99.9% for the 12 findings.
