[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Regarding the recent father-daughter death incident that occurred last month in Cheonan, Chungnam, claims have been raised that the police failed to properly implement domestic violence separation measures, resulting in a 7-year-old girl being killed by her father.
On the 2nd, a post titled "Cheonan Father-Daughter Suicide Incident" was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition Board.
The petitioner, identified only as A, pointed out in the post regarding the multi-family housing father-daughter death incident in Cheonan, Chungnam, "The death of the Cheonan father and daughter that could have been prevented, inadequate domestic violence separation measures."
A stated, "While the wife was separated due to domestic violence from her husband, the 7-year-old daughter was killed by the husband."
He wrote, "Around midnight on the 28th of last month, the wife was assaulted by her husband, and a neighbor reported the incident after the wife’s plea for help to be saved. The wife told the responding police, 'My husband will kill us all,' and requested that her daughter be separated."
He continued, "The police ignored the wife's request after asking the child, who was alone with the husband without the mother present, and hearing the child say 'I don’t want to go.'"
A questioned, "How could the police think it was safe for the father to be with the child who witnessed the father assaulting the mother?" He added, "The mother and daughter are victims of assault. It is incomprehensible to separate the daughter from the mother who was assaulted rather than from the father who committed the assault."
He wrote, "In the end, the daughter was brutally killed by the husband with a knife, and the husband who killed the daughter also committed suicide," and called for "punishment of the police who responded negligently and inadequately, and for strengthening related laws."
Earlier, according to the Cheonan Seobuk Police Station on the 28th, around 9 a.m., a family member found a man in his 40s and a girl about to enter elementary school dead in a multi-family house in Dujeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan City, and reported it to the police. There were no signs of external intrusion.
Earlier, at 12:05 a.m. on the same day, 9 hours before, the police received a report of a couple’s fight from a nearby resident and dispatched officers to check the scene. However, 9 hours later, the father and daughter were found lifeless.
