Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Public Recruitment for Honorary Community Leaders for Foreign Residents

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 4th that it will publicly recruit the 5th term Foreign Resident Honorary Tongjang until the 15th.

The 'Foreign Resident Honorary Tongjang' introduced by Gwangsan-gu is a system that applies the village communication system of Tong-Ban to foreign resident communities such as migrant workers and marriage migrant women.

As a result, a communication channel between foreign residents and local governments was created, and a system for delivering various administrative information was also established.

In this recruitment, Gwangsan-gu plans to appoint about 18 Foreign Resident Honorary Tongjang, with 1 to 2 people from each of 11 countries of origin.

The candidates are foreign residents who will maintain their cultural identity while taking the role of participants in the local community.

Foreign residents who wish to participate can apply directly or through recommendations from institutions, organizations, or the administrative welfare center of their residential dong.

A Gwangsan-gu official said, “The Foreign Resident Honorary Tongjang can contribute to communication between native residents and migrants through various activities such as the COVID-19 multilingual interpretation volunteer group, local community awareness improvement campaigns, and honorary Tongjang capacity-building workshops.”
