[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The number of domestic COVID-19 variant virus infections has increased by 6, bringing the total to 162.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) Central Disease Control Headquarters stated in a regular briefing on the 4th, "Since the 1st, variant virus analysis results for a total of 118 cases have confirmed 6 additional variant virus cases: 1 domestic case and 5 imported cases."

Among the 6 newly confirmed variant virus infections, 5 were imported cases confirmed through tests conducted during self-quarantine after entry.

There are 5 cases of the variant from the United Kingdom, including 1 Korean and 4 foreigners. There is 1 case of the South African variant, which is a foreigner.

One case is a domestic infection related to the export trading complex in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. During strengthened community surveillance, variant virus testing confirmed infection with the UK variant virus.

The KDCA said, "We are expanding surveillance and analysis of variant viruses, including strengthening quarantine measures for overseas entrants," and urged, "Those subject to self-quarantine after entering from abroad and their cohabiting family members should strictly adhere to self-quarantine guidelines until the quarantine is lifted."
