[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City in Jeonbuk announced on the 4th that it will promote effective Namwon-style multicultural policies so that multicultural families can grow into healthy members of society.
First, the city plans to support nationality acquisition fees to reduce the economic burden associated with nationality acquisition for multicultural families and to promote stable settlement.
In addition, education expenses ranging from 100,000 KRW to 400,000 KRW will be provided for passing the Korean Language Proficiency Test (TOPIK) levels 3 to 6, and education expenses ranging from 100,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW will be supported for passing the elementary, middle, and high school equivalency exams.
In particular, the city plans to provide 500,000 KRW in practical training expenses to marriage immigrants in the region who pass the final driving license test, offering self-realization through broad social activities and convenience in daily life.
Furthermore, Namwon City plans to carry out various exchange activities supporting family communication and settlement, such as pairing female association members with marriage immigrant women as mother-daughter pairs to provide local information necessary for life in Korea, exploring Korean culture, and making traditional food.
Earlier, Namwon City received positive responses by actively supporting the social and economic activities of marriage immigrants, such as hiring two additional interpreters/translators with its own budget this year and recruiting four public institution interpretation and translation service personnel after being selected for a region-led youth job contest.
Lee Hwan-joo, Mayor of Namwon City, said, “Multicultural personnel hired by our city were dispatched to Namwon Medical Center and Namwon City Health Center to provide interpretation services, which gave great satisfaction to foreigners,” and added, “Our city will continue to promote various projects so that multicultural families, as members of society, can settle and coexist together, creating an inclusive local community.”
