[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae criticized Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who opposed the establishment of the Serious Crime Investigation Office (Jungsucheong), calling it "intimidation and agitation against the public."
On the morning of the 4th, former Minister Chu posted on her Facebook, stating, "(Prosecutor General Yoon) even uses the newly coined term 'corruption complete victory' to intimidate the public, claiming that corruption will run rampant if Jungsucheong is established."
She argued, "Although modeled after Japan's special investigation unit, the prosecution is defending Korea's distorted special investigation practices as if it were 'justice alone,'" and added, "Overturning cases organized by the Past Affairs Committee and investigating the living power under the banner of 'prosecutorial absolutism' is anachronistic."
Former Minister Chu stated, "Even if investigation and prosecution are separated between the police and prosecution, they must maintain an organic cooperative relationship," and pointed out, "It should be the role of the Prosecutor General to guide a more desirable relationship between the police and prosecution."
She continued, "(Prosecutor General Yoon) should not lead frontline prosecutors into turmoil as the head of the prosecution," adding, "He has the duty as a public official to guide and communicate what the desirable future image of prosecutors is for the protection of citizens' rights."
