Early Detection of SOS Crisis Families and Establishment of a One-Stop Support System
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 4th that it will provide a one-stop integrated welfare service to early detect children at risk and prevent abuse.
Based on Dream Start, a dedicated organization tailored to vulnerable groups in 23 cities and counties, a "Crisis Child Integrated Support Center" will be established to promptly resolve urgent issues faced by crisis families in a comprehensive manner.
Gyeongbuk-do will designate the Dream Start as the central support center and operate it in connection with city and county-level Dream Start (childcare sector), Hope Welfare Support Group (hope welfare service sector), Mental Health Welfare Center (mental health sector), and Healthy Family & Multicultural Family Support Center (healthy family sector).
When a crisis family requests SOS from any of these sectors, the overall issues (cases) of the crisis family will be shared, and a one-stop integrated service will be provided to promptly resolve urgent problems faced by the crisis family.
This approach is based on the fact that among the 1,315 cases of child abuse in the province last year, 1,172 cases (89.1%) occurred within families, indicating that child abuse ultimately requires identification and support starting from crisis families, according to Gyeongbuk-do.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo stated, "Prevention is more important than responding after child abuse occurs, and for this, early detection of children at risk is paramount," adding, "We will make every effort to work closely with administrative agencies and local communities to identify children at risk in advance and eradicate abuse."
