Kia unveils the interior of the 'K8' for the first time: "First-class lounge feel"

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Kia unveiled the interior design of the K8 for the first time on the 4th.

Kia emphasized that the K8 features an interior space inspired by a first-class airport lounge, offering comfort and luxury.

The most impressive feature is the ‘Panoramic Curved Display’ applied to the K8 for the first time by Kia.

The Panoramic Curved Display, composed of two 12.3-inch curved displays, seamlessly connects the instrument cluster and infotainment system, creating a clean and futuristic image. Its open design without an upper cover and curvature optimized for the driver’s seat minimize the driver’s eye movement, aiding safe driving.

Excellent visibility and a sense of spaciousness inside are also characteristics of the K8. Kia lowered the dashboard height by about 20mm and optimized the angles of the left and right A-pillars and the size of the room mirror module. The outside mirror joint was moved from the window to the door, and a triangular window (delta glass) was added in its place, providing the driver with an unobstructed view in all directions.

The luxurious wood grain trim, starting from the driver’s door, extends across the front to the passenger door, wrapping around the first row. The left and right speakers and the metal trim connecting them extend the front area to the sides, adding a visual effect that makes the interior space appear larger.

Wood grain, metal, and leather materials used throughout the interior, including the center fascia, center console, and door trims, harmonize to create a cozy atmosphere reminiscent of well-crafted furniture. In particular, the central area in front of the passenger seat and both first-row doors feature diamond patterns and mood lighting, completing the ‘Star Cloud Lighting’ that continues from the exterior.

The K8’s controls use black high-gloss materials that harmonize with the surrounding areas, creating a simple and luxurious atmosphere. Additionally, they are ergonomically designed for easy use by the driver, considering the frequency of function use.

First Application of Touch-Type Switching Control Integrating Infotainment and Climate Systems

Kia explained that the K8 is the first model to apply a touch-type switching control that integrates the infotainment system and climate control system.

The infotainment and climate switching control allows switching between the two systems via a centrally located button. Except for buttons that require intuitive operation during driving, such as media volume and interior temperature, all other buttons are touch-operated, minimizing the central interior space and creating an innovative image similar to the latest electronic devices.

The center console features an electronic shift-by-wire (SBW) dial with indirect lighting that adds a sophisticated feel. The dial gradually rises as it moves away from the driver’s body, making it easier to reach and providing excellent usability.

Additionally, the interior of the K8 is luxuriously composed with Napa leather quilted seats that offer comfortable seating, the Meridian premium sound system (14 speakers) applied for the first time by Kia, and a steering wheel combining two colors with a new aluminum Kia emblem.
